A Certain Ratio in L.A.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I would like to explain that I won't be ripping anything for this blog this weekend because I am flying down to L.A. to see A Certain Ratio bitchez!!!! It is a DREAM. COME. TRUE!!! Never seen them before, and never thought I'd get to in a zillion years. As you can see from the flyer, there will be a lot of other cool happenings at this event for post-punk lovers, and I might report about them here.

In the meantime, please keep checking that Cocteaus thread, for this dude has posted some more Razor Penguins.

I'm so jealous! Although it's hard for me to imagine that ACR could be as good now as they were in 1979-1981, it'd still be cool to see them. Have a great time--and post some cool ACR when you get back! I've got some goodies from the early days, in case you need some...

Yeah, I thought the same thing "they won't be as good now..." but I looked up a setlist they did last year or the year before and when I saw how many old songs were in it, I got really excited. I'm especially a big fan of their '85-'86 era stuff. I don't care for their later techno-y stuff at all. I did post one song by them on this blog before ("Guess Who"), but in general I wouldn't have considered posting anything by them because it seems to me their stuff is pretty widely available. What do you have or what would you suggest? Actually I did want to post the "Good Together" album, but it's really hard to find a good vinyl copy of that now and I'm not very happy with the one I've got.

I'm way into their spooky Hannett-produced funk: "To Each..." and "Sextet" are my faves (along with all those great singles from around 1980, like "Flight"). Do you have "The Graveyard and the Ballroom," their cassette-only release of live and demo cuts?

Oh I love "To Each...", "Flight", and "Graveyard...". I have both the cassette and the CD of the latter! "Sextet" I didn't like as much but I posted a record awhile back by Occult Chemistry, Martha Tilson's pre-ACR band. That might be a good thing to do a repost of, actually, as it seemed get quite a bit more downloads than anything I'd put up previously.

Hell yeah! Please please reup Occult Chemistry! That post was before my time here, and I've tried getting it, but Zshare seems to have fucked with it. I love Martha Tilson's voice!

I shoulda known that a cool collector like you would have all that ACR stuff! But I have to say "Sextet" is one of my fave records of all time--"Lucinda" and "Knife Slits Water" are amazing--a goth-funk sound?!

Okay that will be my next project then, to get that up here. I can probably get that done tomorrow night.
