Felt - Ballad of The Band 12" EP, 1986

Felt - Ballad Of The Band 12" EP, 1986

Well, this is Felt. People have all kinds of different opinions on Felt, but I'm not really here to start a Felt discussion. The only reason I'm posting this record is for the two solo piano instrumentals on the B-side, one of which, "Candles In A Church" is impossible to find on CD as far as I know. The truth is, I haven't owned this record in a long, long time and it's absolutely wonderful to have it again. A long time ago someone told me that if I liked these two piano instrumentals, I should check out Eric Satie's work. Well, I checked Satie out and was baffled at the comparison. It wasn't the same thing at all. Go figure. Anyway, anyone who digs Durutti Column ought to like these two instrumentals. To be fair, there is a place for Felt in my life outside of this stuff, but I'm just not in the mood to go into that right now.

This record has a companion post on my blog here.

Satie is great. Trois Gymnopaedie (sp?) is of course his most recognizable and probably his best. His contemporaries ridiculed him and in truth, some of his stuff is kinda out there, but 3G redeems any perceived shortfall in his career.

Well it's nice of you to reply, and that is indeed the CD I got - I think it was actually a double CD now that I recall. But as I said, I couldn't see the connnection...a lot of Satie was so whimsical and happy...everything I heard seemed to be so different to these two instrumentals. Do you yourself think these Felt songs sound like his work?

Big thanks for this. I'm a relative latecomer to Felt, only having really gotten into them 5 years ago or so, & "Candles In A Church" is one of the last gaps in my collection. Would love an original copy though, that sleeve is stunning... IBx

Many thanks for this download - been trying to get my hands on a copy of Candles In A Church for the longest while. (Just need to find the two tracks on the B-side of the Space Blues 12'' now). You've made an aging Felter v.happy.
